Saving Money is no Accident
I went to yard sales with my kids on Saturday. My husband was helping the flood victims over in Austell and I wanted a place to take my kids. I took 20$ with me and by the end of the trip had .25 cents in my pocket and a bunch of junk in the trunk. I began thinking, why do I value junk over keeping my money in my pocket and saving for something I will actually use or need rather than stuff I just get rid of after keeping for a short time. I decided that saving was no accident. Rather to save takes discipline, strategy and motivation. I need help. What motivates you to save? What are your strategies? I know we could all use a little help.

If you have ever tried to sell something on Craigslist, you know that you are lucky to get half the price you paid for the item, if you sell it at all. What has helped me curb my spending is thinking about what would happen if I had to resell the item. Would I get anything for it? Would I be okay with just giving it away instead? It is a hassle to get rid of possessions, so a lot of times, I don't get them in the first place.
ReplyDeleteMisty,
ReplyDeleteI am so glad you have this blog. I've been trying to really be mindful of what I'm spending. I look forward to getting new ideas. Everytime I take out one of my Tightwad Gazette books I think of you. You let me borrow yours way back when.
By the way, did I read correctly that you painted the picture in your baby shower post?! It is beautiful... I love it! You are talented.
